New York, NY-- USF's Stan Heath was named the Big East Coach of the Year.
Heath led the Bulls, who were picked 14th in the preseason poll, to a 12-6 conference record, their first winning mark in their seven seasons in the Big East.
"I am having a fantastic time with these guys," Heath said. "They don't mind being taught and being coached. An award like this means so much for the growth of our program."
Heath won the Coach of the Year award in the Mid-American Conference when he was at Kent State.
"This is a different level from Kent State and that meant a lot," he said. "This is from my peers in the best conference in the country."
USF received a first-round bye in the Big East Tournament, for the first time ever.
The Bulls were 14-2 at home, playing their games at 2 different venues while the USF Sun Dome is being renovated.
They're also on the bubble, for a invitation to the NCAA Tournament.?
