CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) - The College of Idaho says its board of trustees has voted to bring back football after a 35-year absence.School officials issued a statement Monday shortly before a press conference on the Caldwell campus.
Athletics director Marty Holly says the college wants to tap into some of the enthusiasm surrounding the Boise State football program. Holly says the school could attract students who might not make the cut at Boise State or Idaho, but could thrive at an NAIA college.
He says those athletes are now going to places like Carroll College in Montana and Willamette University in Oregon, and he'd like them to stay closer to home. Holly and College of Idaho President Marv Henberg plan to meet with officials from the Frontier Conference next month.
